Push 2018

This work searches for physicality and liveliness. The subject pushes off from a steel beam in a contorted way and generates tension. At the same time that beam, the result of a research into presentation, is an extension of the body. The metal girder and the concrete body, two heavy parts, balance each other and come together in a strange object and energetical line. The curved shape at the frontside radiates force while the bands of piled skin at the backside suggest carnality. A contrast erupts between the tight chest muscles, accentuated rib cage and bent back. The cutoffs bring the sculpture to her essence and strip her of every narrative element in a search for universal humanity.
