Grip 2019

Portrait of a contorted look. The clamp that attaches the sculpture to the wall was inspired by the museological presentation of fragments. Physically it is a minimal intervention, that almost presents the sculpture as a relic. Here I enlarge the clamp and its impact. The metal grip becomes almost physical and tangible. Emotionally the steel represents the hand gripping the subject at the neck and causing the contorted look. The clamp becomes an expression of dominance and discomfort, rather than a means to a scientific presentation.

That harshness collides with the softness of the white ceramic. Even if classical fragments of carved faces were often painted, time has made them bo/alder and stronger.

Material: ceramic, steel
