Fabric 2 2019

Just like ‘fabric breasts’ this sculpture is a depiction of my struggle with a new material. It is a translation of ‘Mama Belvédère from cement into fabric. Depicting a classical element like the torso in fabric bumps into the limitations and possibilities of this material. The power and weight of the original sculpture don’t translate into cotton easily. The result is a struggle of the body with a recalcitrant, but honest material. Hanging weight turns into bands, stitches skew, fabric resists its form. This creates an S-shape, not present in the cement version of ‘Mama Belvédère’.

Material: cotton, red thread, wood
