Mama Belvédère

I investigated if it is possible to reproduce the imposing tension in the muscular torso of Belvédère with a female model. The impressive muscle mass, a chunk of energy, was translated into the flowing curves of the female body. The same force, of a model that is the process of sitting up, had to flow through the new sculpture. The figure is moving albeit not clear why or where to. The way in which the fat piles and folds into layers on top of each other show, together with the falling forms, the weight and power of this body. The female chin and wiry neck are a subtly elegant stroke, that stresses the weight even more.
